Backgammon
What is this game about?
Backgammon is an ancient game with a very iconic board. You roll the dice and move your checkers around the board anti-clockwise to allow them to leave the board. First player with all their checkers off the board wins.
How do I control the game?
You use the mouse, or the touchpad on your laptop. There are no keyboard controls for this game.
How do I play?
You start the game with 15 checkers. This board is divided into four quadrants. Two in front of you and two in front of your opponent. Your checkers are spread across the four quadrants in a set pattern as the game starts. Each player rolls the dice and moves their checkers towards the final quadrant. Once all your checkers are in the final quadrant, you can start moving them off the board. The first person to move all their checkers off the board wins.
What if I land on an opponent's checker?
If you roll the dice you can move anywhere on the board, except opponent's checker stacked more than one checker high. However, if an opponent has left a single checker then you can go on that square and you move them to the middle strip, the hinges, of the board. They then cannot move until they get their checkers off the middle strip.
How do I get my checkers off the middle strip?
You have to roll the dice and get a number that allows you to move back on to the board. Remember, you cannot move onto spaces occupied by an opponent's checkers stacked more than one checker high.
How does the game progress?
As the game moves on, both players start to get more and more checkers in the last quadrant. However, they also start to take more risks and get "taken" more often so have to move checkers from the strip onto their opponent's last quadrant, this creates a tension in the game and adds to the excitement and need for tactics. Remember, this game has been played for 5,000 years so it's more than just shuffling checkers around aboard and rolling dice.
Gameplay tips:
1) Building chains: Building up chains of bubbles of the same colour is key to reaching odd bubbles and misplaced bubbles of that colour. You need to link bubbles together in one shot;
2) Take it easy: Keep firing, but don't panic. You probably have more time than you think to place your shots;
3) Musical help: Put your favourite music on in the background to help you relax and enjoy the game. If you panic and start firing at random then you'll lose sooner than if you take it calm and collected.
